Udah belelak nudukka diri lalu berumban nungkunka grill ba porch. Laban grill ti ngena gas nadai mega maioh macham iga, tak buka penyumbat gas lalu tekanka ignition..pooooofff bunyi api nangkap. Tu meh pengawa lemai kemari laban ti enggai kiruh berapi! Half of my folks were doing their things nadai di rumah except for my youngest one ti bemain basketball kediri diri di tisi rumah. I picked up the phone…as usual ..ngechek pendiau orang tuai di menua I dialed the number laban bisi tiga hari udah enda betalipaun bejaku enggau sida iya.
From the moment tudah indai nyaut talipaun, I suspected something wasn’t quite right. “Apoooo jampat amai ngangkatka serta nyaut talipaun,” ku aku. Laban selama tu nyau puas ninga derut bunyi pukul tut-tut baru bisi orang nyaut. “Benung mansa nya utai pan lalu bebunyi,” ko tudah indai. I was still wondering; I was led to believe there must be something. After all, kitai mensia tu ngereja pengawa lalu responding for a reason! Nyau pemaioh jaku randau, nanya ga tudah aku only to realize I came out with it differently this time! Aku lalu nanya, “ Kemaya ke menua?” Usually my question munyi tu, “Bisi nemuai ke ulu?” “Nasit nuan tumu laban aku tu baru deka nurun ke ulu kin,” ku tudah indai. Naturally kitai nanya nama pengawa or bisi pengawa or nama pejalai. Meant to be or not..ahhh. “Uncle nuan Pirang udah nadai deh sanu, baru udah telephone uncle nuan Paing tadi. Aku baru udah telephone ke mummy nuan di Kuching mega,” ku tudah indai madah. I was lost for words….asai ti teganggam rang..."Fate," ko aku dalam ati. Asai ti lemai kemari he was there for me, and he was always there for me while growing up. A father figure to a ‘fatherless’ child, and I will always remember that. Your wisdom, thoughfulness and ingenuity will be sadly missed and will always be in my heart. It just hit me hard that I have just lost a friend, a teacher, and a father figure. May you rest in peace.
